Overture

I titled this painting and its accompanying original musical score ‘Overture’, for it is an introduction to an upcoming large-scale painting and music project, currently underway in the studio. “Overture”, or prelude, suggests a short piece serving as an introduction to a more substantial work. And for me, this piece is a metaphor for how I am approaching its much larger, more complex successor. Overture reveals my intent to fit a figure in a very confined space, while giving it a powerful purpose and pleasing aesthetic value. In this confined figure, you experience human plight – it is hopefully conveyed along with the message of importance to expand on these ideas.

I am finally breaking into the visions and ambitions I’ve held in mind for over the past three years as I push my boundaries as an artist and challenge what might contain or “define” me. – Thanks to God.
